General Plan

My science fair project is to see which type of laundry detergent takes out the most stains. Pods, liquid, or powder. I will conduct my experiment at my house; I will collect my data in the guest bathroom. This way I can keep the white towels untouched so they will stay clean after the wash. I will wash each towel for one hour. I will compare my data by putting each washed towel under a white towel that was not stained to see what towel of the three is the cleanest.

Detailed Procedure

1. Gather all materials (measuring cups, white towels, pod, liquid detergent, powder detergent, and camera)
2. Pour two cups of cranberry juice, and 1/4 of a cup of BBQ sauce on white towel
3. Wash the stained sheet with tide pods
4. Take a picture of towel every twenty minutes
5. Dry the washed sheet
6. Repeat steps 2-5 with the powder detergent
7. Repeat steps 2-5 with liquid detergent
8. Compare the three sheets to see which one has that cleanest outcome

I will have photos, two for the before and after of the liquid detergent, two for the before and after of the pods, one photo of the stain that will be applied to the sheet, and of the three towels under a white towel.

Data Analysis

Because my data did not include numbers, I set up my graph and raw data as the three towels after they were stained and washed together under an original white towel to show what laundry detergent takes out the most stains. After my experiment, the liquid detergent takes out the most stains. My Hypothesis was correct.

Results

After my experiment was finished and the white towels where stained, washed , then dried, I found out the The towel washed with liquid detergent took out the most stains. Not only that but was the whitest out of the three. My hypotheses was correct. Liquid detergent takes out the most stains.

Conclusion

I wanted to see what type of laundry detergent could take out the most stains. By doing my experiment I found out he liquid detergent can take out the most amount of stains followed by pods, with powder taking out the least. Not only did the liquid detergent take out the most stains, but it had the cleanest outcome as well.

Discussion

My hypotheses was liquid detergent will take out the most amount of stains, followed by pods and then powder. For each of my trials i washed the three diffident towels in the three diffident types of laundry detergent. I washed each towel for one hour. After each wash i compared the three towels to an untouched white towel to see the differences in the ways the detergents worked. My hypotheses of liquid detergent taking out the most stains was correct.

Benefit to Community and/or Science

The benefit to the community or science is to see what type of laundry detergent takes out the most stains. By doing my project I narrowed down the three most used types of laundry detergent. The three types were liquid detergent, powder detergent, and pods. I stained three white towels with some pretty common stains, Cranberry juice and BBQ sauce. The three types of detergent, the powder had the dirtiest wash, and liquid came out the cleanest.

Abstract

In my experiment I wanted to find out what type of laundry detergent takes out the most amounts of stains. I stained three different white towels with cranberry juice and a little bit of barbecue sauce. After each towel was stained I hand washed all three in Liquid detergent, powder detergent, or pods. After each wash I dried the three towels one by one, and compared the three together. The towel washed with liquid the whites’ outcome and took out the most stains. Pods, was second to take out the most stains but still had a slight pink tint to it. The third towel washed with powder was not clean at all; the stains were not taken out all the way and were a nasty yellow. My hypothesis was correct that the liquid detergent would take out the most stains.
